      Hospital compensates mother after failing to recognise signs of foetal distress

      Sarah lost oxygen to her brain during childbirth. Hospital staff had failed to recognise early signs of foetal distress and Sarah developed foetal hypoxia as a result. We proved that their actions were negligent.

      Sarah’s hypoxia occurred when her unborn child’s shoulder was trapped behind her pubic bone. This cut off oxygen to Sarah’s brain and left her clinically dead for approximately 10 minutes. Remarkably, Sarah recovered well and now exhibits only mild intellectual symptoms.

      We built Sarah’s case with extensive evidence from medical experts. This included a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology. They determined that hospital staff had reacted inadequately to Sarah’s difficult labour.

      Sarah’s claim was resolved shortly after mediation for the sum of $550,000. An additional allowance of $185,000 was made for part of Sarah’s legal fees.
