      My name’s Darren Fitzgerald. I work for Woolworths Limited, generally as a business manager. Basically, if I got sick, I couldn’t walk. There’s days where I couldn’t even move. I couldn’t even get out of bed. I was on a temporary disability claim through my superannuation.

      Every doctor I’ve been to have said I’ll never work again. So then I decided to put in a claim for my total disability, and they rejected that after eight months. Originally, when they said no, I basically said, “Okay, there’s no point,” and I just went away and I sat there and I thought, “No, this is not right.” Rang three law firms, two in my area in Wollongong, and this one. My area of solicitors took three days to get back to me. This firm replied in an hour.

      When I first contacted Monaco, they were amazing, absolutely amazing. To get a response from anybody within an hour and to have everything laid out then, basically on the spot, was amazing. After 12 months of doctors and paperwork and this and that and this and that, all through the insurance company, as soon as I rang Monaco, I said, “I’m going, let’s go for it.”

      Within a month, we were done. To get that phone call and to say that they’ve finally decided to roll over was such a relief. To have someone take you through the whole process is so much of a relief. It takes the complete stress out of everything. Like I said, if I knew now, if I knew I could have fought and submitted my claim through a solicitor prior to doing that, I would’ve done it instantly. I actually feel better. It’s hard to say with my condition, like I said, it’s so erratic, but with the amount of stress that I’m not dealing with at the moment, I actually feel a hundred percent better in myself, and I’m actually starting to spend more time with my family and my kids. It’s amazing.
