      Patient gets compensation for GP’s poor administration of anaesthetic

      Amelia

      Amelia’s GP failed to properly anaesthetise her arm before removing a contraceptive implant. The incident caused ongoing pain in her arm and hand. Amelia was unable to perform her pre-injury work assembling computers. We ensured Amelia received the compensation she deserved.

      When the GP cut into her arm, Amelia moved sharply and caused the scalpel to injure her ulnar nerve. She experiences electric shock pain in her left arm and an involuntary locking of her fingers. She requires medication to control the pain.

      Amelia was unable to continue her work assembling computers. Instead, she worked at the computing company in a different role. Our Medical Negligence team argued that Amelia’s new role did not guarantee her continued financial security. The chronic pain made her totally unfit for any manual work. Should she lose her job, she was at high risk of ongoing unemployment in her field.

      The matter was settled successfully at mediation for a sum of $650,000.
